Halba people

Halba people group lives in central India in the states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra and in Koraput district of Odisha.

The word Halba is derived from word 'hal' means 'plough'. The Halbas were farmers and landlords.

The Halba people were one of the major and most influential people group of Bastar.

Halbas were active in politics and military of Bastar. The goddess of Halbas is "Ma Danteshwari".

Halbas  has no sub-castes. The language of Halbas is "Halbi", Halbi is formed out of Oriya and Marati, Chattisgari. Halbi is spoken by about 7 lakh people of India.
